Luis Lopez
Artist Biography
Born in 1954 in Rio Bravo, a border town in Tamaulipas, Mexico, Luis Lopez migrated to the United States in the 70’s. He is a self taught artist who has acheived an advanced independent level. Lopez began his career as an artist in 1975. He spent several years cultivating his artistic knowledge and worked on various public art projects. Public interest in Lopez’ talent increased and he began receiving various commissions throughout the United States and Mexico. He was commissioned in 1993 to create several murals and coordinate colors throughout San Antonio’s renowned Market Square. At the world-famous La Margarita Restaurant hangs one of many of Lopez’ murals titled “Campanas de America,” a fine example of his extraordinary skills. He has provided design and conceptual guidance to businesses, corporations, medical institutions and universities. Lopez was commissioned to design and supervise the execution of Los Pueblitos Boutique in San Antonio, including several large murals of Mexican scenery representing different regions and landscapes. In addition, he painted a large tropical scene on a skylight. Lopez followed this commission with additional design work at España Bonita including a large piece of artwork on canvas entitled “España Bonita”.
With the success of establishing a reputation for himself as a Fine Artist, Lopez built a permanent home for his art studio and gallery in San Antonio called “La Casa Rosa”. From this new home, Lopez continues to produce and exhibit his powerful artwork and captures the interest of art enthusiasts to an international level. The studio quickly earned a reputation for conceptualizing and for creating uniquely styled murals and paintings. His rich color combinations represent his powerful cultural background! Lopez’ work is being exhibited in California, Texas and Mexico. What makes Lopez special is his unique blend of consistency, continuous development and achieving new techniques simultaneously. He improves his craftsmanship by constantly working on it. He is one of the greatest conceptual artists who focuses on the project with spontaneity, creativity and effectiveness.
Lopez spends part of his time painting at his newest studio in the mountains of Hidalgo, Tamaulipas, Mexico where he finds solace and inspiration.
Luis Lopez: Artist Statement
I paint with the conviction that my art is touching the lives of many people. My philosophy of living is the result of a life long love affair with art. As my collectors have described me, “My art comes from my heart.” Art has awakened in my existence the vital energy and vast questions that have no answers. Art has given me the opportunity to live a life filled with magic.
